How Serbian media report on the EU and European integration process - an online debate

The EU-funded project Pulse of Europe - Media Trips to EU organises an online debate entitled "Media Challenge - European Union" on how the media in Serbia report on the European Union and the process of European integration. The debate will be held on Wednesday, 17 February 2020, starting at 12:00, on the Zoom platform.

The debate is being organised in the cooperation with the EU Info Centre in Belgrade. Link for Zoom platform: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89481824796?pwd=KzJURjhJQWg4S3ZyY1NOMDZ2RHRQZz09

Panellists at the debate: Dr. Aleksandra Krstić, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade, Nemanja Todorović Štiplija, editor-in-chief of the European Western Balkans portal, Zoran Sekulić, director of FoNet News Agency and member of the Board of the Association of Serbian Media, Ljiubica Gojgić, journalist of Radio Television of Vojvodina and Tamara Filipović Stevanović, Secretary General of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia.

Reporting on the European Union is one of the major challenges for the media not only in the candidate countries, but also in the EU Member States. The global trend of spreading misinformation and the increasingly frequent appearance of false news make this challenge even more complex. In Serbia, which has the status of a candidate for EU membership and conducts accession negotiations, reporting on the EU and the process of European integration is a regular part of the daily work of all media. Improving the quality of information on the process of European integration of Serbia, in order for citizens to be properly informed, is a challenge that requires additional engagement of editors, journalists and journalist associations. The online debate on how to better bring both the EU closer and the process of European integration to citizens is the first in a series of meetings to be organised by the project Pulse of Europe – Media Trips to EU with that goal.
